Hi! I’m using OwnTracks and found it was publishing an obscene number of points for a while (~8,000 points per day). Is there a way to filter and delete points where the geolocation has barely changed?
And for that matter, any advice on OwnTracks? I had it set to Significant Changes, 200m minimal location displacement, 60s location interval, and it was sometimes reporting once per second while stationary.
I’m using GPSLogger to reduce battery draw on phone (it now has a Dawarich destination built in – so not sure this answers your ?
GPSL has profiles which can tweak many aspects of the point tracking
I spent a fair bit of time testing things to come up with 2 profiles, one for day to day and one for hikes (more detail but more battery draw)
I think your Distance Filter will reduce points substantially.
I was focused on battery and less jumpy lines covering the Dawarich map. Hope this helps you on your way a bit

Rationale:
Default profile prioritizes battery for all-day general tracking (walking, bus, car)
Hiking profile prioritizes clean trail lines for Wanderer
Keep GPS on between fixes" ON eliminates cold-start GPS jitter/bounce, at acceptable battery cost since hikes are hours not all-day
Biking: no dedicated profile — use Hiking profile as-is (infrequent enough not to warrant a third profile)
Fallback if Hiking drains battery too fast: clone to “Hiking (Low Power)” with only “Keep GPS on between fixes” set to OFF, A/B test trail quality vs. battery
